Local Visitor Attractions

There is a wide range of attractions and places to visit on our doorstep in South Gloucestershire, including pretty market towns, historic buildings and Slimbridge Wildfowl Centre. We are in easy reach of the bright lights of Bristol and Gloucester, which are well worth a visit.

Don’t forget, if you’re planning to be out for the whole day visiting attractions, we will be happy to arrange a packed lunch for you, just ask at reception.

Berkeley Castle

Berkeley Castle is one of the most remarkable buildings in Britain and possibly the most outstanding example of Mediaeval domestic architecture in the country. A Norman fortress with an enclosing curtain wall.

Cattle Country Adventure Park

The Adventure Park has been operating since the early 1990’s, and has grown from a field with a few trampolines to one of the best visitor attractions in the area. There are a number of attractions that will keep you busy all day and encourage you to get involved with your children as much as possible.

The Edward Jenner Museum

From Gloucestershire in the 1790s to Somalia in the 1970s, Dr Jenner’s House, Museum and Garden traces the impact of one of the pivotal events in world history, in the place where it happened. This is the house where Edward Jenner, pioneer of vaccination against smallpox, lived and told the world about his work. Less than 200 years later, smallpox had been eradicated, with countless lives saved in the process.

Slimbridge Wetland Centre

A whole new world of discovery awaits you at WWT Wetland Centres. There's trails ablaze with wildlife, encounters with some of the world's most endangered birds and exhilarating adventure playgrounds for little explorers. Add to that, a packed line-up of events throughout the year, cafes serving delicious homemade goodies, and gift shops bursting with take-home treats.

Newark Park

Newark Park stands proud on top of the Cotswold escarpment, looking down into the Ozleworth valley to the Mendips beyond.  A place of architectural intrigue, quaint gardens and sprawling parkland there is much to see and do at Newark.

The Wild Place project

Launched in July 2013, and located just off junction 17 of the M5 motorway, the Wild Place is a fun, family attraction.Home to an array of endangered animals from Madagascar, East Africa and the Congo, including zebras, elands and lemurs, and you’ll find beautiful gardens to explore and a variety of different outdoor learning activities.

The Mall at Cribbs Causeway

The Mall, situated off junction 17 of the M5, has 135 top name stores, restaurants and cafes with 7,000 free parking spaces.  It's a great place to shop, meet friends and relax.

Airhop Bristol

Remember when bouncing on the wall wasn’t something you could do literally? AirHop Bristol not only comes with a sea of trampolines, but a viewing mezzanine too. If you don’t fancy having the wind in your hair, you can grab a coffee or a slushee and watch while the rest of the world experiments with their flight.

Gloucester Cathedral

Gloucester Cathedral is a place where all are welcome, regardless of background or faith. They are open 365 days a year and are proud that entry into the building is completely free for everyone. The Cathedral boasts Norman pillars and vaulted cloisters where scenes from Harry Potter were filmed.

Avon Valley Railway

The Avon Valley Railway has steam trains and scenic boat tours operating throughout the summer.  Based at Bitton Station, midway between Bristol and Bath, this former Midland Railway station has been restored from a derelict state to provide visitors with refreshment and toilet facilities, a railway shop, a pleasant garden, and outdoor seating.

Painswick Rococo Garden

Situated outside the beautiful Cotswold town of Painswick, and famous for its snowdrop display. Back in the 1740s, Benjamin Hyett designed an unusual garden to entertain his guests at Painswick House.  Some of the key features include highly ornamental decoration, the use of pastel colours and asymmetry.  In art, beauty and sexuality are often celebrated.

Westonbirt Arboretum

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, is located in Gloucestershire, three miles from the Cotswold market town of Tetbury. Westonbirt attracts over 400,000 visitors per year and is known worldwide for its spectacular autumn colour and the spring rhododendron, azalea and magnolia displays. The arboretum is popular for groups, individuals and educational visits.

Dyrham Park

An historic herd of fallow deer roams freely in the 270 acres (110 hectares) of ancient parkland, full of magnificent trees and breathtaking views. Visitors can get a flavour of the richly luxurious 17th-century life enjoyed by founder William Blathwayt by stepping into the impressive baroque mansion house.

The Cotswold Water Park Trust is a charity which manages the beautiful Cotswold Water Park – an area of 40 square miles, with more than 150 lakes set across the countryside of Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and West Oxfordshire.

The Severn Bore

The Severn Bore is one of Britain's few truly spectacular natural phenomena. It is a large surge wave that can be seen in the estuary of the River Severn, where the tidal range is the 2nd highest in the world, being as much as 50 feet (approx. 15.4m). As many as 60 bores occur throughout the world where the river estuary is the right shape and the tidal conditions are such that the wave is able to form..

Horse Racing

The Gables is perfectly situated for visiting Cheltenham Race Course (28 miles away) for the famous Cheltenham Gold Cup in March and The Badminton Horse Trials in May. One to tick of the bucket list for an amazing day out.

There are over 17 Farmers' Markets in Gloucestershire, including well - established ones at Stroud, Stow-on-the-Wold, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Cirencester.

Brean Leisure Park

For a fun packed family day, visit Brean Leisure Park in Somerset, which is approximately an hour's drive away. There are 40 rides, from thrilling roller coasters to children's river boat rides, plus a large swimming pool complex.
