What's on in South Gloucestershire this spring & summer

 

Spring is finally here and fun-filled summer days are just around the corner. Whether you are staying in the area for a bit of ‘me’ time, enjoying a couples’ break away, or looking to keep the little ones entertained - there’s something for everyone in South Gloucestershire and Bristol.

If you are looking for a trip to the theatre Disney’s The Lion King is playing at Bristol Hippodrome brings the story of Simba to life using spectacular music, masks, puppets and costumes from 18th May to 1st July.

For all the foodies out there the South Gloucestershire Food and Drink Festival takes place on the 20th  and 21st May with the very best in local and international cuisine, delicious wines cocktails, craft beers and live music and activities for kids.

For those who love the outdoors the UK’s largest free celebration of the natural world takes place at the Festival of Nature – over ten days of vibrant city events, family nature parties, wildlife workshops and more from Friday 9th to Sunday 18th June.

For a Roarsome Father’s Day, head down to Berkeley Castle on Sunday 18 June for a fantastic day for the whole family! Meet Raptor and Rexy as they roaringly entertain from the safety of their arena.

It’s carnival time on Saturday 1st July as St Pauls Carnival returns to the streets of Bristol. Enjoy a fusion of carnival culture and heritage including a procession, costumes, food, musicians and dancers. This year will mark the first full carnival day since 2019, which will see over 100,000 people celebrate in the heart of Bristol’s St Pauls neighbourhood.

Bristol Pride takes place on Saturday 8th July attracting some of the biggest names in live music and entertainment, plus new and emerging talent including performances from local artists and community groups. Pride Day will also see a welcome return of the Pride Big Top, Youth Area, Family Zone and Community Area.

For all the live music lovers out there Gloucester Rhythm and Blues Festival brings nine days of great live music throughout Gloucester City from Wednesday 26th July to 30th July.

Bristol Harbour Festival returns on Friday 14th to Sunday 16th July for a celebration of all the communities of Bristol including music, dancing and children’s entertainment in the unique setting of the harbour.

There’s an amazing sight to be seen at Bristol’s International Balloon Fiesta from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th August. Europe's largest annual meeting of hot air balloons attracts over 130 hot air balloons from across the globe. There is also entertainment for all the family including aerial displays, children’s activities and food and drink stalls.

While visiting Bristol make sure you keep an eye out for unicorns this summer, yes…..unicorns! Unicornfest is a public art trail of unicorn sculptures, painted by Bristol artists and on display at famous landmarks in the area.
